Hostility Will Never Hold My Heart By Chloe Aldecoa

Hostility Will Never Hold My Heart

Religion locked me up
in a closet
shrined with Adam and Eve
and Mary and Joseph.

Adam married Eve,
my child,
Mary wedded Joseph,
my child.

Blessed be the day you crawl out of this closet
to be covered by the golden halo God has for you.

I have been clothed in God’s golden halo,
a drapery of fine linens,
for he loves me so,
and religion locked me up.

I wish for Adam to marry Adam,
Eve to love Eve.

Conservatives will never preserve tradition,
progress has made its step forward,
and I choose to march onward.

Religion locked me up
in a closet.
if I never opened the door,
misery would have reigned upon me.

though I may be frowned upon in a chapel,
hostility will never hold my heart.

Biography:

My name is Chloe Aldecoa, I am seventeen years old and am currently a junior in high school. I live in Arizona and I have been a passionate writer by heart since I was six. I have used my writing as my form of therapy, as well as a way to profess my experiences, and others’ experiences as well, into the world I feel that writing, for me, is easier than just speaking. I am able to say much more and relate to many more with my poetry, than my own voice ever could.
