THE DAY SAME-SEX COUPLES ARE BANNED FROM ADOPTING IN GEORGIA, USA

I think of calling my mother and telling her to turn off the news.

I think about the children missing out on a loving family.

I think I’m glad we’re not American.

I think about my parents asking me if it’s okay to be gay in Rome.

I think this world is beyond saving.

I think about being taught in R.E that same-sex couples can’t adopt easily because no one wants two mums or dads.

I think of how lucky I am to be straight.

I think about what it means to be denied being a parent, by law and nature.

I think about my parents leaving the adoption office in tears.

I think about the home they could’ve given a child.

I think I’m not proud to be English.

I think of the men and women who are crying today.

I think of nothing but them.

At 5pm, I cry for them. I cry with them.
