Lacuna By Bessie Huang

Lacuna

This downpour
is an elegy

against bare feet
against river-creeks,

against lips against flower

petals against lips,
against skin, against my

eyes searching
yours. The music

is never loud
enough.

The sonata ends a note
too early. Darling—

it is eight past twelve
and your light is still on.

I am writing
this elegy

to take my mind off you.
But even I forget

sometimes
